Seeds of Light came into being in 2000 when Leslie Temple-Thurston, a South African living in the United States, was deeply affected by the plight of AIDS orphans in South Africa.
We’re a group of ordinary people whose hearts have opened to the plight of the world. We come from different walks of life and various professional capacities. We know that love-in-action is the most powerful response to what we see transpiring in our world. We all hold a similar passion for service and have chosen to serve humanity during this difficult time of global transformation. Our goal is to be responsive to the urgent crises that arise in the coming times.
The need for far-reaching transformation in the world is guiding and inspiring us. We see that humanity has entered a dangerous time as both human and natural systems fail and need to be remade. Currently, a re-organization of humanity’s consciousness is taking place, and it is up to individual people to become involved if an extensive new vision is to be found that has the capacity to replace the old, dysfunctional structures of our world. If this does not happen humanity could slide dangerously close to self-destruction. With enough people willing to get involved in planning for radical change, humanity can learn from its mistakes and create a new future together.
Since 2000, we have continued to build our strength and gain experience. We have completed many projects in the intervening years and share here those that are still ongoing. We moved from financially supporting orphans' homes to being “hands on” with a wide variety of sustainable, empowerment projects in marginalized communities. These include: drilling wells, creating sustainable vegetable gardens, HIV/AIDS education, skills trainings, computer learning programs, creating libraries and music and art programs.
Our current commitment is to study an impoverished community, discern why it is out of balance and work towards uplifting it. We believe that by uplifting the consciousness and well-being of the people, we are offering sustainable assistance. We have found that only by helping people help themselves, can true change occur.
