About Selfless Service Print E-mail
We believe that by volunteering our time and energy to support others, we all come away as winners. We often work long hours or in challenging circumstances, but we are fed and fulfilled in the end, as it is such a heart opening and joyous experience. By working with other cultures and peoples, we can watch, day by day, as our judgments fall away, our hearts open and we learn to walk with greater humility. We learn how to laugh—at ourselves and with those around us—when we serve in this way.

Service takes many forms. It can, but does not necessarily mean, traveling to another country. This means that everyone, no matter what we have to offer, can be of service. The desire to share what we know, enjoy ourselves and have confidence in ourselves is where we usually start. Given time and opportunity, being of service inevitably pushes our boundaries and helps us to grow. In interacting with others, we learn to truly listen, collaborate and develop the quality of selflessness. By practicing selfless service, ultimately we find we are living in a state of love.

Due to limited Seeds of Light staffing, we are currently unable to accept volunteers in South Africa. There are many ways to support Seeds of Light. Please see the July 2010 newsletter and read the last article for suggestions on how you can help. Thank you for your interest in our work.
