After School Meal Program
Trygive and Suzan started their Community Garden over ten years ago and as part of their service, Seeds of Light has partnered with them to provide over 250 children a day with a hot nutritious meal from a small kitchen with a great team of local women.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Yet, in many rural communities across South Africa, food insecurity and malnutrition remain critical challenges, impacting children’s health, development, and future potential.
More than a decade ago, TryGive and Suzan established a community garden to help address these issues.
Today, their initiative has grown and includes the After School Meal Program, providing over 250 children with a hot, nutritious meal each day .
A dedicated team of local women prepares these meals in a small, efficient kitchen, using fresh vegetables from the garden whenever possible.
This program provides a safe place for the children to come after school where they can play with their friends and where their parents know they are being looked after.
To sustain and expand this effort, the program relies on purchasing essential food staples, as well as additional vegetables and protein sources to ensure balanced nutrition.
For some children, this meal is the only one they will receive that day—offering not only nourishment but also easing the burden on families struggling to put food on the table.
